Mon, 21 Feb 2022

The construction of Lelley Fields Crematorium has begun near Preston, creating a new facility in the heart of Holderness, and residents are invited to find out more at a series of sessions next week.

This is an exciting project involving the development of the first East Riding of Yorkshire Council-operated crematorium to offer people a fitting and sensitive place to commemorate their loved ones. The innovative design has been led by the council's building design team in infrastructure and facilities.

Kier Construction started work on site in winter 2021 and are due to complete works early 2023.

The project teams from Kier Construction and East Riding of Yorkshire Council are hosting three sessions to share news on progress, to answer questions and to seek input in future decisions.

The sessions will take place on Monday, 28 February at Preston Community Hall at 5-6pm, 6-7pm and 7-8pm.

Places are limited and residents can book via the website at https://bereavementservices.eastriding.gov.uk/

Councillor Jonathan Owen, leader of East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: "I am pleased that work on a new crematorium has started in Holderness and we have an opportunity to share progress on this exciting project with residents."

Dan Doherty, regional director at Kier Construction North & Scotland, said: "We are working closely with East Riding of Yorkshire Council to provide this excellent facility for the community.

"It is important that we meet with the local community to share news and ideas."
